It’s time for some Weymouth Beach Motocross sand surfing!

It’s that crazy time of the year again when the beautiful golden sands of Weymouth beach are transformed into a motocross track for the annual AMCA event. This coming Sunday, October 12th, the action is set and ready to rock, and proving its undoubted popularity, entry levels are up for the 2025 bash, topping 300 plus riders! As per normal, the organising Purbeck MXC joins forces with the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club to promote the event, their aim to provide an exciting day of motocross sand surfing action. Although the spectating of that action is totally FREE for everyone, there will be the usual bucket collections and special souvenir programmes on sale, in the process raising as much money as possible for local charities.

On track, Charlie Putman, Alfie Calvert, Henry Siddiqui, Syd Putman, Luke Oldfield and Bradley King all top ten overall finishers in the 2024 Expert class start again. Last year, Charlie Putman chased eventual overall winner Jake Shipton home in both moto’s and so surely starts the 2025 encounter as one of the strong favourites for honours! Charlie has just finished 16th in the final ACU Motul British Motocross MX1 Championship but there’s plenty of serious opposition coming his way at Weymouth this Sunday. Regular Weymouth beach race contenders and CPMX Racing teammates Josh Waterman and Lee Truman will be on the start line along with the likes of top EVO racer Jamie Skuse, Simon Booth, Charlie Hucklebridge, Jordan Wright and Corey Hockey, returning after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury. Late additions to the Expert entry are three potential winners consisting of the FUS Marsh MX duo Shane Carless, who was a fantastic 4th in last weeks Weston Beach race, James Dodd the current AMCA Open class and Acerbis Amateur Nationals MX1 Champion and super, talented ACU Motul British Championship rider Josh Colemam. After winning the 2024 Weymouth Seniors contest, Alex Harvey moves up into this Sunday’s Expert class as does Riley Saunders, 2nd in 2024 and Ross Walter.

In the 2025 Seniors entry list for Weymouth, none of the 2024 top ten are due to start. Joining this class though after starring in the previous year’s Junior contest are winner Tommy Hobday, Francis Heather, Curtis Wright, Adam Gustafson, Charlie Blake and Max Luckes. One name worth watching out for in this one could be young Callum Radford who recently competed in a French Beach race event.

Just like the Seniors, none of the 2024 Juniors final top ten are due to start this year’s race so the 2025 results will certainly have a totally different appearance! Once again, the entry list for the Weymouth Juniors contest is sold out and totally full! Completing the Weymouth programme is a Vets Over 40’s class and with the 2024 top two of Jim Davies and Phil Mercer not racing, Richard Meakin, 3rd in 2024 will be looking to take full advantage. Daniel Saunders (4th), Casey Jones (6th), Mark Morris SNR (7th) and Chris Toulson (8th) will start the 2025 bash whilst an interesting addition to the entry is Northamptonshire ACU rider Paul Burn.

Practice for Sunday’s event is due off at 11.30am followed immediately by the first of eight exciting, extended moto’s. So, get down to the seafront early to ensure your viewing spot on the Esplanade, enjoy the action and contribute in monetary terms to the Weymouth and Portland Lions collections for local charities.
