Well, Landrake was certainly a rollercoaster ride for ASA United GASGAS at Round 5 of the British Motocross Championship.
We made the journey down to Cornwall with our young MC250f pilot, Ben Mustoe, to finally sink our heels into some hard-pack racing for the first time this season. A steady but strong effort in qualifying allowed Ben to head to the gate in 6th for race one—where he rocketed out of the gate and up the hill to a holeshot aboard his GASGAS, stretching out an early lead in the moto and commanding the head of the field from start to finish.
Navigating through the lapped riders proved challenging, allowing Tommy Searle to mount a late charge to try and take the lead, but the 163 did not succumb to the pressure, maintaining his position until the chequers and securing his first-ever professional race win!
Race two, unfortunately, didn’t bear the same fruit for Ben. A good start and battling at the sharp end of the pack in the early laps came to an abrupt end after going down quite hard in the whoops, injuring his wrist and subsequently retiring from the race. At this moment in time, it doesn’t seem as though there are any suspected broken bones, so we will monitor Ben over the coming weeks in the hope that he may be fit enough to return for the double-header in Scotland.
We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge Ben’s race win—crossing the line first ahead of a stacked field of incredibly talented riders is no easy feat. The years of hard work, the efforts from Ben’s family, his trainers and coaches over the years, our mechanics, our sponsors—it has all given Ben the best opportunity possible to succeed. To finally reap the rewards of everyone’s sacrifices by showing the nation exactly what Ben is capable of is both humbling and a clear reflection of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, week in and week out.
It is, of course, a bittersweet moment for Ben and the team. But there are many positives to take away from Landrake, and we look forward to continuing to build from here!
A huge shoutout to all of our sponsors—your contributions and support are invaluable. We can’t thank you all enough.
