A tough weekend in the sand for Rafe

The last round of the MXGB Championship was hosted at Culham Moto Parc, Rafe Symons, NORA CRS Rider, had missed the first round due to injury and had hopes of finishing the Championship inside the top 10.

Earlier in the year Rafe had secured a podium finish at the third round of the NORA British Cup which was held at Culham, so he was excited for a weekend of racing.

Rafe headed out for Qualifying on a new bike and set a good lap time, having got to grips with the bike, he crossed the line qualifying in P11, which was a good result.

Race 1 – Rafe headed to the start line, focusing on getting a good start and how the race would play out. A cracking start saw Rafe out with the leading pack and after the first lap he sat in P11, he remained focused and consistent and crossed the line in 11th place.

Race 2 – As the gates dropped Rafe’s struggled to keep the front end down, having to let off the gas, meant he didn’t get the best start. The NORA CRS Rider settled into 14th place and looked comfortable. He began attacking forward in the hope to progress through the pack. However, the front end tucked and he dropped the bike. By the time he was upright and going again, Rafe had dropped back to 20th Place, where he crossed the line.

Race 3 – A much better start, saw Rafe settle into 13th place, however, on the third lap, a deep rut got the better of him and he fell to the ground. Only for the rider behind to crash into Rafe’s back, coming to rest on top of him. Rafe was buried at the bottom of the pile up, badly winded from being hit with a bike, it took him several minutes to get his breath back. The medics were keen to check him over, but Rafe knew in himself he was fine. However, by the time he rejoined the race, he was dead last. Rafe finished the race to gain some well needed points.

Once the Adrenaline had died down, it was clear that Rafe injuries were worse than first thought. With a facial injury and unable to lift his left arm above his-head, the decision was made not to enter the last race.

The MXGB was a fantastic series to be part of, having missed the first round due to injury, Rafe finished 14th overall, tied on points with 13th place in the Championship. The plan at the start of the year was to finish inside the top 10, had the first round not been missed, it shows this would have been a possibility.

Thank you to Coach Robb, Carl Jones and NORA CRS for their help this year – 2026 hopes to be another successful year.
