Could we see the return of the popular Margate Beach Race in 2026 with Mecca-X organiser Dave Willet behind it?

Lately – Margate Beach Race has come up a few times, so I want to explain where things stand in layman terms. Apologies in advance for the long text.

Last year I was given two possible dates — one early in the year and one later on both dates work along side beach maintenance… Please note a lot of work goes into getting these dates approved before you even get close to running the event itself, so they’re not opportunities that come easily – I’d been working looking into this for YEARS

At the beginning of the season I didn’t feel there would be enough support in place to make the early date work properly, so the plan was to build some momentum through @Meccax and then run the event later in the year. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen family circumstances, I had to step away from a few things.

Anyway I’m still happy to work towards making this event happen and putting the effort into activating again which available to do in 2026. What I can’t do, though, is spend time and money building something on the hope that it might pay off in a year or two. From past experience, that approach leaves the organiser carrying all the risk at the start, only to face criticism later on if it succeeds

For this to work, it needs the right level of support from day one so it can stand on its own first time around. If that support is there, I’m keen to move forward.
