2023 MX NATIONALS UK CALENDAR

In the UK the MX Nationals UK series under the ACU are set for a six round series in 2023.

Round 1 – 11th & 12th March 2023, Oakhanger, Hampshire

Another new track from the MX Nationals team makes it debut as the opening round and that’s good thing for the championship and British MX. This is the perfect track to start the championship in March as it can definitely run in wet conditions, should that be the case….but of course, we’re hoping for a crisp blue skies to kick off another awesome year of racing! This venue will 100% play it’s part in that. It’s got a real ‘Dutch’ or ‘Belgium’ mx feel about it. The surface is a mix of deep and firm sand and winds it’s way though varying evergreen trees and with two of the U.K’s top track builders in Alfie Smith and Justin Barclay designing and building the circuit it will have plenty of modern day obstacles to keep riders and fans entertained. It will get rough pretty quick too, so a good all round challenge for all the riders who will all be riding the track for the very first time.

Round 2 – 6th & 7th May, Monster Mountain, South Wales

One new venue just didn’t seem to be enough! So we’re going to another for round two, this time ‘Monster Mountain’. It will also be the first time the MX Nationals visits Wales and we’re excited about that, as much as we are about the circuit itself. It will be another Alfie Smith and Justin Barclay build and design and they have plenty of space to work with to build a ‘monster’ of a track too as the venue is a former quarry….a bloody big one. The track will another GP spec design with wide open, flowing turns on hard pack dirt and plenty of room for viewing and for spectators to get around. We’re looking forward to seeing who will be crowned the first ‘King of the Mountain’.

Round 3 – 3rd & 4th June, Preston Docks, Lancashire

We’ve visited Preston Docks MX track several times before, now we’re going back to the North East for some summertime sand surfing. Although it’s not a new venue it will be having a revamp for the MX Nationals by Lee McGarry and will be in tip top condition come race weekend. Of course being another sand based circuit it will get rough and tough for the all the riders as the weekend goes on, but this is motocross, national level motocross at that, so it’s not meant to be easy whether you’re a youth, clubman, amateur, expert or elite pro racer. With three viewing banks around the track you won’t miss any of the battle and challenge unfolding in front of you either.

Round 4 – 8th & 9th July, Oxford Moto Parc, Oxfordshire

We signed off the 2022 MX Nationals in style at the then brand new Oxford Moto Parc. It’s fair to say it was a hit with the riders and fans alike. Based on a military airfield it has ample hard standing for the paddock area and public which is obviously good, but it’s the track itself that really got everyone buzzing. Another Alfie Smith design and then built by himself and Justin Barclay this track has a bit of everything. There’s plenty of airtime with some big table tops and steps ups, but there’s also an array fo smaller jumps, rollers and bowl turns. It’s also a bit of a track with two halves, with the lower end of the circuit being more sand based to the hard pack clay in and around the start area.

Round 5 – 5th & 6th August, Cusses Gorse MX, Wiltshire

This popular track out on Salisbury plain has got better and better down the years. This one is Justin Barclay’s own venue and obviously he put’s his heart and soul into making it the best he can. He’s worked the soil down the years and now it has softer top soil to it on top of the chalk base. Come the MX Nationals it’s always in great shape with plenty of ruts and lines and we’ve seen some of the best racing of the championship there these past couple of years. Track viewing is brilliant, especially for our ‘Straight Rhythm’ event that happens on Saturday night with the fans right alongside the stretch.

Round 6 – 2nd & 3rd September, Hawkstone Park, Shropshire

Simply put, Hawkstone Park is one of the most iconic motocross tracks on planet Earth! The sand may not be as deep as it once was but that’s not to say the track has got any easier down the years. Like many tracks it’s been altered and adapted down the years and now has a few more ‘modern’ obstacles but some of the classic parts remain like the sand bomb hole and of course the famous hill that have played their part in world motocross history. Hawkstone Park is still one of the most demanding tracks in the world and if you’re going to win the event or the championship here, you will have definitely earned it. A more than fitting venue to wrap up what will no doubt be another spectacular MX Nationals championship.
